How to remove Chewing Gum from your carpet

Cleaning Chewing Gum on carpet can be challenging, but following these steps will ensure the best results.

Chewing Gum

Stain:
Grayish or pink, rubbery, sticky, built-up

Contains:
Chicle flavoring, sugar

  1. Harden gum with an ice cube until it is brittle enough to scrape off with dull knife or spatula.
  2. Apply dry-cleaning solvent to remove remaining traces.
  3. OR Use a commercial chewing gum remover.

Cleaning Solutions to have on hand:

1.  Detergent: Mix 1/2 teaspoon clear dishwashing detergent with one cup of warm (not hot) water.

2.  Pre-soak Solution: Mix 1 teaspoon enzyme laundry detergent (such as Axion, Biz, or others) with one cup of water.

3.  Dry Powder Cleaner: Use powdered carpet cleaners.
